Individual Research contributions to group project

 Research on Microsoft Hololens

- At the start of the project, our team was unsure of which direction to take, as each member had explored different technologies. After a thorough discussion and comparison of our ideas, we ultimately decided to move forward with Yizhe's suggestion to focus on the Microsoft HoloLens 2.

- I read through multiple articles and reviews to understand how the HoloLens 2 works and came across both positive and negative feedback regarding its performance and usability.

- After discussing with my groupmates, we came up with a problem statement, which is to enhance the Hololens 2 by increasing its refresh rate

28 Feb 2025

  • Using ChatGPT to research the pros and cons of the Microsoft HoloLens helped me quickly gather insights on its key strengths and limitations.
  • Using ChatGPT, we generated multiple key points and compiled them into a shared document to serve as a reference for shaping our project direction.

  • Analyzed multiple consumer reviews and identified that many users reported a lower refresh rate in the HoloLens 2, which led to flickering and colour distortion
  • Discussed the Ideal, Gap, and Goal with my team and explored different directions we could take to address the HoloLens 2’s display performance issues, though we have not yet finalized our problem statement.

4 March
  • My team and I sat down for a discussion and collaboratively developed a table of contents to guide the structure and flow of our project report with reference to the pointers that we have pasted in the earlier week
  • Researched the problems statement with my team and came up with the initial problem solution, which is to integrate OLED and MicroLED to reduce flickering and colour distortion
  • I drafted a brief overview of the HoloLens to provide background information and context for our project.
  • I was tasked with creating a purpose statement to clearly outline the objective and direction of our project.

7 March
  • After a team discussion, we concluded that integrating OLED and MicroLED was not feasible. As a result, I was tasked with identifying a new problem statement, which I later finalized together with my team.
  • After changing the problem statement, I was tasked with developing a new purpose statement to ensure it aligned with the updated focus of our project.
  • After completing both tasks above, I proceeded to write a brief description outlining potential solutions to improve the display performance of the HoloLens 2.
  • After that, I reviewed my team's work and provided constructive feedback. Whenever there were disagreements, we held group discussions to reach a consensus.
11 March
  • My team and I sat down to discuss the proposed solutions, and together we brainstormed several ideas to address the identified problem.
  • After that, I conducted additional research to develop proposed solutions and shared my insights with the team to ensure alignment and agreement on the ideas presented.
  • I was tasked with completing the solutions section of the report, focusing on proposed improvements to address the identified problem.
  • I added in-text citations and full references for all the sections I contributed to since 28 February to support my claims with credible sources.
14 March
  • Based on the feedback that was given on the mock presentation, I had a better understanding on what i needed to do and refined my script and slides.
  • I assisted Nic with his powerpoint slides as some slides were too wordy and made sure the pointers were there to assist him in presentation.
  • Participated in the rehearsal the night before. With each members explaining their own points, we then gave each other constructive feedbacks and ensure that we were on the same page.
21 March
  • I evaluated the teams that were presenting and provided constructive feedback on how they could improve their presentations.
  • I analyzed how other teams presented their ideas and reflected on ways I could improve my own presentation based on their strengths and approaches.
  • After a team meeting where we agreed to focus on hardware and software improvements, I reviewed the sections I had contributed to in the report and decided to add more information to further enhance and strengthen the overall content.
28 March
  • I was tasked with completing the evaluation section of the report, where I conducted research on the potential drawbacks of upgrading the HoloLens.
  • Had a zoom video call with Professor Blackstone to review our technical report and asked anything that i was unsure with the project.
  • I received constructive feedback on areas to improve in my section of the project and made the necessary revisions after our team meeting.
1 April
  • Checked with my team on how to do APA citation where they gave me great pointers and made some updates based on their feedbacks.
  • Started adding in-text citations for all the parts i have done since 28th February

This supercar challenges established supercar manufacturers like Ferrari and Lamborghini with its exceptional speed, state-of-the-art aerodynamics, and sophisticated engineering. The Yangwang U9 makes a name for itself as a fierce contender in the global automobile market because to its exceptional acceleration, distinctive suspension system, and powertrain that prioritizes sustainability.

The BYD Yangwang U9 has an all-electric drivetrain that generates about 1,300 horsepower and is designed for maximum performance. This puts the supercar on par with some of the world's fastest hypercars, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds (XYZ Auto, 2025). BYD's e⁴ platform, which offers an independent four-wheel-drive system that improves stability, grip, and agility in a variety of driving circumstances, supports the powertrain.

The Disus-X intelligent suspension system, one of the Yangwang U9's most inventive features, enables the vehicle to do hitherto unthinkable actions including jumping, tilting, and three-wheel driving (AutoTech Insights, 2025). This technology greatly improves handling accuracy, ride comfort, and versatility on various road surfaces. The vehicle's aerodynamic design and this suspension system work together to provide optimal performance and safety at high speeds.

Another advantage of the Yangwang U9 is its contribution to sustainable performance. Since it runs entirely on electricity instead of fossil fuels like traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) supercars do, the U9 emits fewer greenhouse gases. Without compromising performance, BYD's cutting-edge battery technology, which uses high-energy-density lithium-ion cells, offers remarkable range and efficiency (GreenTech Review, 2025). Additionally, the car has fast charging capabilities, which reduce downtime and make long-distance driving more feasible. Supercars that run entirely on electricity can drastically reduce the automotive industry's carbon footprint while preserving the thrill and excitement of high-performance automobiles. The Yangwang U9 is a shining example of this change, demonstrating that speed and sustainability can coexist peacefully. 

While the Yangwang U9 shows many revolutionary to the world with its new technology and impressive specifications, the Yangwang U9 still has a ways to go before it can be widely adopted. Critics may argue that a significant issue is the perception of the brand; many wealthy people continue to favor well-known European producers over up-and-coming Chinese ones. In addition, compared to conventional gasoline-powered supercars, the charging infrastructure for high-performance EVs is still in development, which may limit the usability of the U9 for long road trips compared to traditional gasoline-powered supercars (GreenTech Review, 2025).

To strengthen its position in the supercar market, BYD needs prioritize brand development, customer education, and extending charging infrastructure. By demonstrating the U9's performance in racing circuits, auto shows, and real-world endurance testing, BYD can gain credibility and attract enthusiasts who value cutting-edge technology and sustainability. Furthermore, government incentives and worldwide laws that promote EV use may increase the appeal of electric supercars such as the Yangwang U9. As more countries adopt stricter pollution laws, typical gasoline-powered supercars may confront restrictions, giving way to totally electric alternatives (EV Policy Watch, 2025).

In conclusion, the BYD Yangwang U9 is a game-changer in the high-performance EV market, demonstrating that electric supercars can compete with or even outperform their conventional counterparts in terms of sustainability, speed, and innovation. The U9 ushers in a new era of automotive greatness with its incredible acceleration, cutting-edge suspension system, and futuristic styling. Despite ongoing issues with infrastructure development and brand perception, BYD's dedication to innovation and sustainable mobility makes the Yangwang U9 a revolutionary product in the market. Vehicles like the U9 will be vital in determining the direction of high-performance transportation in the future as the world electrifies.
